A stunning pair of beautifully carved serpentine Fu Dogs with great detail and personality, both in the carving and the fine pattern of this beautiful, heart chakra mineral. One dog has suffered some wind related damage shown within the red circles on the second picture and so I have reduced the price by 35%. The repairs are almost invisible.
Known in the West as Fu Dogs, these are an ancient representation of Imperial Chinese Fu Lions which are traditionally used to guard the entranceway to a building. Symbolic of the feminine and masculine or yin and yang they offer protection and prosperity. The female lion is said to guard those living within the building and the male is guarding the physical structure. Their open mouths represent the breath in and breath out of life and death. Their use spread across much of Asia and versions can also be found in Japan, Korea, Burma, Laos and Cambodia.
